Image intensifier tubes' Rehabilitation Program
Night Vision Devices (NVDs) are highly sophisticated and expensive equipment. NVDs' core element is the Image Intensifier Tube (IIT) and is the most expensive one. IITs incorporate an Electro-Optical (EO) Module wrapped by a Power Supply Unit (PSU), which are both encapsulated in a hard sleeve housing with metal contacts for operational voltage. The EO Module amplifies the low light level input, as well as the IR illumination. The PSU provides the applicable operational voltages as well as an electrical protection to the EO Module.
- IITs malfunction can be caused by various reasons, however, most of the non-conforming IITs could be divided into two main groups:
Exhausted IITs - Damaged or Exhausted EO Module. Such IITs are not repairable and should be replaced. - IITs with a damaged (PSU) - Whenever the PSU unit is damaged, the IITs could be easily brought back to normal service by means of replacing it. The PSU's cost is a fraction of the IIT's total price and provides an outstanding value for money service.
